The Silent Kind was formed by two long time friends, Michael Erwin and Todd Miramon. Formed in 1992, The Silent Kind started as 5 piece original band playing small shows to a steady fan base throughout Southern California. Their sound was heavily influenced by such bands as The Smiths, The Sundays, and The Trashcan SInatras. During this time, the band recorded their first album and continued to play local shows while gaining more of a following. Tensions between certain members started to arise and the band called in quits towards the end of 1993.
At the beginning of 1994, Michael (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Todd (Lead Guitar, backing Vocals) reformed with original drummer Roger Apodaca and added Ed Handog on bass guitar. Soon thereafter, the band started to receive radio airplay with their first single "Nothing to Worry About". The new 4 piece band started to play shows and was featured a spotlight for a local radio station.

The band gained a bigger following and released a new album under the 4 piece line up that sold out in stores in 2 weeks. Due to exposure on the radio, the band started to gain more popularity around Southern California and opened up for established acts such as Bronski Beat, Information Society, as well as headlining shows. The Silent Kind started receiving international radio airplay as well with a song called "Missing You Today".
As the band continued on and their popularity grew, they found themselves playing for the MTV Spring Break in mid 1994 and kept introducing new material by songwriter Michael Erwin. In addition to constantly playing live shows and radio airplay, they went back into the studio to record a new single called "She'll Never Know" which gave them more airplay. The song was well received and was featured on a compilation called "Bubba Says Listen".
After constant live shows, the band took a break in 1996 for a couple of months while Michael went to study abroad in England. After the break, the band went back to rehearsing new material. It seemed that the band would just pick up where they left off by playing a sold out show opening up for Berlin. However, this was to be the final performance. By early 1997, the Michael and Todd decided to call it quits.
It's hard to say what would have happened if the band continued on. "I would like to think we would've gone to the next level, but I think deep down inside we (Michael and I) knew it were at a stand still. Musically we were going in opposite directions", says Todd.
Michael went on to form the band Charming which gained success while Todd formed the group BellyFull. Both Michael and Todd continue to write and record music.
